February marks Black History Month!

Today, our student guest announcer helped us continue the celebration by sharing an inspirational quote from Harriet Tubman during the morning announcements - and he did an outstanding job! Throughout the month, students will share meaningful words honoring influential African Americans. More inspiring messages are in the way!

🔔 Our Bell Has Been Busy Again! 🔔

We have some wonderful celebrations to share with our school community!

Weston rang the bell for truly showing what it means to be a good friend. When a new student temporarily joined Mrs. Smith’s classroom, Weston went out of his way to make him feel welcome and comfortable. He read with him, supported him during classwork, and made sure he never felt alone in a new environment. His kindness and leadership made a meaningful difference, and we are so proud of him for being such a positive role model!

📘 Mrs. Hugo also rang the bell to celebrate several of her hardworking 5th graders. Her group includes students who are among our top performers as well as students who have demonstrated tremendous growth on the mid‑year iReady math assessment.

📖 Mrs. Davidson joined the celebrations by recognizing students for both high achievement and impressive growth on the mid‑year iReady reading assessment.

Way to go, students! We are so proud of your hard work, growth, and kindness—keep making our bell ring! 🎉👏

Today, we kicked off our Kids Heart Challenge fundraiser during specials! Mrs. Poole, a representative from the American Heart Association, visited Churchville to share the importance of supporting children born with heart conditions and how our school community can help make a difference.

Students received an informational paper with a QR code to scan in order to get started. This year, our fundraising goal is $19,500. Last year marked our most successful year yet, with just over $19,000 raised.

Let’s do this, Chargers!

🎉Bell Ringer! 🎉
Yesterday we celebrated an incredible achievement! Christian completed the Maze subtest on DIBELS with 22 correct responses and zero errors — and according to our Reading Specialist, “That is the best I have ever seen anyone do on this subtest.”
To put that in perspective, the goal at this point in the year was 12, and Christian nearly doubled it. His hard work, focus, and persistence truly paid off. This kind of performance is not only impressive — it’s absolutely bell‑worthy! 🔔✨
We are so proud of you, Christian. Keep shining and keep believing in what you can do. 💙📚

📢 CVES Attendance Matters!
In an effort to bring attention to our overall attendance, CVES will begin posting weekly attendance data. Attendance is not only essential for our students’ growth and learning—it also plays a key role in determining our school’s overall performance on the Maryland Report Card, which is published each year. Let’s work together to ensure our students are present, engaged, and ready to succeed!

She joins the second-grade team with a mission to build a classroom where every student feels safe, valued, and eager to take learning risks. Mrs. Lewis believes a strong home-school connection is the key to a successful year.

At CVES, one of our favorite traditions is celebrating student success by ringing the bell! The bell is located in the office so that everyone can hear and share in the excitement when a student achieves something amazing.

Today, it was Layla’s turn to shine:
"We are so proud of Layla Lumaro. She grew 77 points on the Reading i-Ready. Way to go, Layla!" — Mrs. Michocki

This simple act of ringing the bell reminds us that hard work and growth deserve recognition. It’s a joyful sound that says, “You did it!”
