Educator Rising High School student reading a book to three Elementary School students

Students in the Educators Rising chapter at Havre de Grace High School visited Havre de Grace Elementary School on June 4 for a hands-on teaching experience that put classroom skills to the test.

Educators Rising is a national program that prepares high school students for careers in education. Chapter members develop lesson plans, practice instructional strategies, and gain real-world experience working alongside classroom teachers and students.

During the visit, students were each assigned a book and tasked with planning and teaching a corresponding lesson to a first-grade class. Before stepping in front of students, they presented their lessons to the classroom teachers for feedback, then read their assigned book and led their lessons.

The chapter has also been building toward next school year. Copies of "Restart" by Gordon Korman have been delivered to the Havre de Grace High School feeder elementary schools, where fifth graders at each school have been selected to participate in a student-led book club in the fall, guided by Educators Rising chapter members.
