Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) has been awarded three separate grants through the Maryland Energy Administration's (MEA) Decarbonizing Public Schools Grant Program, totaling $2,446,000.

The funding will support several initiatives that further HCPS's commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and responsible stewardship of public resources.

The grants will enable HCPS to expand its energy data analysis and management capabilities, pursue additional solar energy generation opportunities beyond the district's current 10 schools with solar installations, and replace energy recovery HVAC equipment throughout the county.

"These investments provide meaningful opportunities to strengthen our sustainability efforts while improving the efficiency of our school facilities," said Dr. Dyann R. Mack, Superintendent of Harford County Public Schools. "By leveraging innovative technologies and renewable energy solutions, we can reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs, and create healthier learning environments for students and staff."

The funding aligns with HCPS's ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental impact while enhancing the performance and reliability of school infrastructure. Expanded energy management and solar initiatives will help the district better monitor and optimize energy use, while upgraded HVAC equipment will improve energy recovery and operational efficiency in school buildings.

HCPS currently has solar installations at 10 schools and continues to explore opportunities to increase renewable energy generation across the district. The MEA grants will help accelerate these efforts and support the district's long-term sustainability goals.
